A Special Appeal from Drs. Hanauer and Kirsner:
Dear Friend of GIRF:
If you or a loved one has ever suffered from a gastrointestinal or digestive illness, you understand the importance of receiving a prompt diagnosis and the best possible care. Access to caring physicians utilizing advanced technologies can make all the difference in the world. That is why each year we write to you on behalf of the Section of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (G.I. Section) at the University of Chicago Medical Center and ask you to support us through the Gastro-Intestinal Research Foundation (GIRF).
Since 1962 GIRF has raised millions of dollars in support of our research programs and training. This continued support has allowed the GI Section at the U. of C. to maintain its top ten ranking in U.S. News and World Report for more than a decade. And in 2009, despite being the “smallest program in the top twenty,” we maintained our ranking of 6th in the nation! Our programs in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Hepatology, Interventional Endoscopy, GI Oncology, Small Intestinal Disorders and Celiac Disease are internationally recognized and our cutting edge, basic and patient-oriented research continues to make discoveries at a rapid pace.
Our Friends of GIRF campaign supports the research necessary to find cures for such disorders as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, hepatitis and many different forms of gastrointestinal cancers. These outstanding research and training efforts allow us to continue “translating” our research findings into individualized health care improvements. We remain committed to the concept of personalized medicine.
We want you to know how much we value your past support and we ask that you help us again this year. Our “Friends of GIRF” receive GIRF’s Health Newsletter, In The Loop, which contains important and informative articles on current research in the G.I. Section, our bi-annual GIRF Newsletters and invitations to all fundraising events.
With whatever amount you choose to give, you will be helping us maintain the highest standards of excellence in research, education and patient care.
We thank you.
